Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this afternoon on a cold, sunny day with a nor’easter small craft advisory and incoming tide. Ocean was very rough with no surfers. Few boats 🛥️ were on the water and few fishermen were on the jetty. Two spear fishermen shot 3 blackfish and a striped bass. Oystercatchers, osprey, loons, cormorants and gulls were nearby. A seal 🦭 pup was sleeping on the beach when I arrived and still there when I left. I reported it to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, NJ. Caught, tagged and released 2 30” bluefish to 9 lbs with a very old #2 stainless steel Japanese metal squid during the early bite. Lots of big blues were caught over the fence. I took lots of photos.

Went fishing in Manasquan Inlet this afternoon on the incoming tide in the rain 🌧️. Didn’t get a hit in two and a half hours of casting an Ava A-17 and two teaser rig. Fishermen said big bluefish were caught yesterday afternoon and evening. Two osprey flew across the inlet with fish 🐟 in their talons. One of the fish was a blackfish. Cormorants migrated north. Brant were on Glimmer Glass Creek. I took photos.

Went ultralight jigging in 62 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a warm, sunny day with a south wind small craft advisory. Caught and released a yellow perch and pickerel with a 1/32 oz Temu twister tail jig on 2 lb test line.

Went ultralight jigging in 60 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a cool, sunny day with a strong northwest wind. Caught and released 5 yellow perch to 10”, 4 largemouth bass and a pumpkinseed sunfish with a 1/32 oz Temu twister tail jig on 2 lb test line in 3 different spots.

Went ultralight jigging in 58 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a cold, sunny day with a moderate west wind. Caught and released 3 largemouth bass, 2 yellow perch, 2 bluegills, a black crappie and a red breasted sunfish with a 1/32 oz Temu twister tail jig on 2 lb test line. 12 other fishermen caught nothing. Catching warm water fish in cold water is very difficult.

Went ultralight jigging in 62 degree Turnmill Pond this evening on a warm, sunny day with a strong west wind. Five boats were there. I caught and released 2 yellow perch with a 1/8 oz twister tail jig on 4 lb test line. I probably won’t return to that spot until next year because of the weeds. Saw Adult bald eagles 🦅, osprey, a hawk, vultures, Canada geese, turtles 🐢 and too many people.

Went ultralight jigging in 59 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a cloudy, cold 🥶 day during a small craft advisory nor’easter in the rain. Caught and released a largemouth bass, 3 yellow perch and 3 bluegills with a Temu 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line. Saw 7 fishermen catch and release a 20” pickerel. Big carp were jumping and making bubbles.

Went ultralight jigging in 58 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a cold, cloudy day during a nor’easter small craft advisory. Caught 2 largemouth bass and 3 yellow perch with small jigs on 2 lb test line. Gave 4 fish 🐠 to a great blue heron. While walking to my car at dusk, the heron took off, then landed on the Aqueduct between me and my car. It didn’t want me to leave.

Went ultralight jigging in 62 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a cold, cloudy day between rain showers. There was an east wind gale. Saw 12 fishermen catch and release a rainbow trout with a spinner in the canal. I caught and released 4 white perch, 3 yellow perch, 3 black crappies, 2 bluegills, a largemouth bass, a green sunfish and a greengill with 1/32 oz jigs on 2 lb test line. Catching 15 fish 🐟 of 7 species in one spot was amazing 🤩.

Went ultralight jigging in 66 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a warm, sunny day with little wind. Caught and released 2 bluegills with a 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line. A fisherman from Virginia was in my spot, so I went fishing 🎣 on the south shore of the Millstone River in West Windsor, NJ, for the first time this year. Caught and released 4 white perch, a 13” largemouth bass and a 13.5” pickerel. Mosquitoes 🦟 were biting. An osprey dove into the river. Lots of turtles 🐢 were nearby. Heard a bullfrog. Canada geese, mallards, wood ducks, crows 🐦‍⬛, double crested cormorants, great egrets, great blue heron, doves, grackles, redwing blackbirds, swallows and robins were flying. A few fish 🐠 were swirling. Took pictures.

Went ultralight jigging in 66 degrees muddy, flooded Carnegie Lake this evening on the hottest day of this year. Caught and released 5 bluegills, 3 white perch, 2 yellow perch, 2 largemouth bass, a black crappie, a golden shiner, a pumpkinseed sunfish and a red breasted sunfish with a 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line. Didn’t see the 16 other fishermen catch a fish 🐠.

Went ultralight jigging in 62 degree Sturgeon Pond this evening on a warm, sunny day with a sou’wester gale. Caught and released 5 black crappies, a bluegill and a largemouth bass with a 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line. There was a late bite again starting at 6:42 PM. Saw beavers 🦫, eagles 🦅, Canada geese, wood ducks, crows 🐦‍⬛, redwings, doves, robins and turtles 🐢. Took pictures.
