ProtestThousands of female employees across Iceland walked out of workplaces at 2.38pm on Monday to protest against earning less than men.Iceland is the best country in the world for gender equality, yet women still earn on average 14 to 18 per cent less than their male colleagues. According to unions and women's organisations, this means in every eight hour day women are essentially working without pay from 2.38pm. In the Nordic country's capital, Reykjavik, thousands of women gathered in central Austurvöllur square when they left the offices, shops, factories, and schools where they were supposed to be working. Similar but smaller protests are thought to have taken place around the country.

ClowningA teenager dressed as a "killer clown" and brandishing a hammer has been stabbed after attempting to scare a group of young people.Police in Berlin said a 14-year-old in the group responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing the clown, only to find that the person behind the mask was a 16-year-old acquaintance.The 14-year-old boy then gave first aid until the emergency services arrived.The teenager dressed as a clown was taken to hospital, while the other was released to his parents.The clown craze - people dressing up in order to intimidate others - is thought to have started in the US, apparently influenced by Stephen King's horror story, It.

Divers had found what appears to be paved floors, courtyards and column bases. However, no other evidence of antiquities exist at this site. Instead, scientists from the University of East Anglia and the University of Athens considered the possibility of geological origin.

Lead author Prof Julian Andrews said: "The site was discovered by snorkellers and first thought to be an ancient city port, lost to the sea. There were what superficially looked like circular column bases, and paved floors. But mysteriously no other signs of life – such as pottery.

"The disk and doughnut morphology, which looked a bit like circular column bases, is typical of mineralization at hydrocarbon seeps – seen both in modern seafloor and palaeo settings."
