A new TV series based on cult movie Interview With The Vampire will reportedly begin filming later this year.

Based upon Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels, the 1994 movie starred Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as the leading members of an ancient vampire order.

Now, TVWeb reports that a new series boasting the direct involvement of Rice and her son Christopher will begin shooting in September after receiving the green light from Hulu.

It’s expected to begin filming in Budapest this summer under the guidance of showrunner Dee Johnson (Nashville), although concrete details of casting and the plot are yet to emerge.

With 11 books to choose from, Rice will have no shortage of material. She previously expressed her intent for the show to kick off with an adaptation of The Vampire Lestat, although it’s unclear if this will still happen.

It is also yet to be confirmed if any of the original cast will return, although the involvement of in-demand stars such as Cruise and Pit seems somewhat unlikely. 

The show could also have an unlikely rival in The Lost Boys – which is also set for a small screen return.

As Deadline reported earlier this year, The CW has revived talks about adapting the vampire horror-comedy classic for the small screen, spearheaded by Grey’s Anatomy writer Heather Mitchell.

The original 1987 film, which starred actors including Kiefer Sutherland, was followed by a pair of direct-to-videos sequels released in 2008 and 2011, Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst, with only Corey Feldman returning from the original cast.
