Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams is based on the oft-mined short stories of the late author and further explores his futuristic worlds and ideas.

The series does so with the help of an all-star crew in front of the camera and behind it. Steve Buscemi, Anna Paquin, Terrence Howard, Greg Kinnear, Janelle Monáe, Vera Farmiga, and Maura Tierney are among the actors involved, while Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), and Dee Rees (Mudbound) each wrote and/or directed an episode.

Filling the role of both star and executive producer is Bryan Cranston, who previously appeared in the 2012 Total Recall remake, which, like Blade Runner and Minority Report, was inspired by Dick’s work.

“I will not do anything that doesn’t move me, because otherwise, it’s just a job — and I don’t need a job,” Cranston tells EW. “I had always been a fan of Philip K. Dick, and I love to tell stories, so when this opportunity came up, I jumped to be a part of it.”

The four-time Emmy-winner, who has made a concerted effort to create and produce projects in his post-Breaking Bad years (Sneaky Pete, Dangerous Book For Boys), leads the cast of Electric Dreams‘ third episode, “Human Is.” Director Francesca Gregorini’s installment focuses on Vera (Essie Davis), a woman suffering through a loveless marriage with her emotionally abusive husband (Cranston). But when he returns from battle, he suddenly appears to be a different man — in more ways than one.
