Because summer shouldn't get to have all the fun.

Spring and summer lend themselves to being perfect for music festivals, as the weather is beautiful and people are off school and ready to dance their days away. While big names like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Electric Daisy Carnival all dominate the warmer months, that doesn’t mean there is nothing to do when the leaves change and the air gets cool. In fact, some of the best events take place in the fall and winter, which many people don’t expect.

If the summer slipped away and you have been feeling like you missed your chance to do it up, think again! Try any of these amazing parties, and embrace the emergence of the fall and winter music festival.

Riot Fest

Date: September 16-18
Location: Chicago, IL

Riot Fest is just as crazy and rowdy as its name would suggest, so keep that in mind when you’re deciding what fall festival is right for you. The Chicago-based event has become so popular over the years it has expanded, and the Denver edition just wrapped up this past Labor Day weekend.

Unlike many music festivals these days, don’t expect to catch any chart-topping EDM acts at this party, as it’s all about various kinds of rock (with just a bit of hip-hop thrown in to make things interesting). The upcoming Chicago showing is set to feature groups like The Flaming Lips, Death Cab For Cutie, Brand New, Jimmy Eat World and a Misfits reunion, which is worth the price of admission for any superfan.

Roots Picnic

Date: October 1-2
Location: New York City, NY

The Roots Picnic is organized by, you guessed it, The Roots, and nobody knows quality music like them. The legendary hip-hop/R&B group has been curating and hosting the event in Philly for nine years now, and it has quickly become a staple of the summer.

This year, the brand is expanding, and in October, the Roots Picnic will pop up in the Big Apple for the first time, bringing along some superstar talent. The first NYC Roots Picnic will feature D’Angelo, John Mayer, Nile Rodgers, David Byrne, and of course the act that put it all together.

Desert Trip

Date: October 7-9 & 14-16
Location: Indio, CA

Hosted on the same hallowed grounds as Coachella and Stagecoach, Desert Trip is already gearing up to be one of the biggest and most lucrative music festivals of 2016 — and it’s only in its first year.

Most music festivals are aimed at nabbing as many young people as possible, but Desert Trip’s organizers looked in the other direction, and this may go down as the first massive fest for baby boomers. Believe it or not, there are only six acts on the bill, but that is more than enough. The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Roger Waters and The Who are all signed up to play, and to be honest, I’m not sure any festival will ever be able to top that.

Voodoo Music + Arts Experience

Date: October 28-30
Location: New Orleans, LA

If you’re tired of the same old Halloween party and you’re ready to do something different this year, there is absolutely no party like a New Orleans party, and you know that city can do Halloween right. The Voodoo Music + Arts Experience is the perfect event for the scariest weekend of the year, and the 2016 edition seems like it’s going to be frightfully good.

Voodoo brings every kind of music and every kind of person together and blends them all, which is fitting for the city where it takes place. This year’s lineup includes Arcade Fire, The Chainsmokers, G-Eazy, DJ Mustard, and plenty of talent waiting to be discovered, such as Cheat Codes, Lunice, Slaves, and many more.

SnowGlobe

Date: December 29-January 1
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA

SnowGlobe stands out from the crowded festival market for so many reasons, it’s at least worth considering. The event takes place over the few days surrounding New Year’s, and it’s an immersive, removed experience — though not the kind that most people are used to when it comes to festivals.

This party is surrounded by snowy nature, and in between sets by some of the biggest names in EDM, attendees go skiing and snowboarding. The lineup for 2016 hasn’t been announced just yet, but a look at past years suggests that it’s going to be great. In 2015, the show was headlined by Jack Ü, Kaskade and Dillon Francis, and in the past, names like Skrillex, Zedd, Disclosure, Deadmau5 and Tiësto. Thankfully, tickets for the upcoming SnowGlobe just went on sale, so there’s a good chance there are still spots open for you and your friends.

Lights All Night

Date: December 30-31
Location: Dallas and El Paso, TX

If you’re not in the mood for celebrating New Year’s Eve in the cold, but you feel the need to rage with some high-grade EDM, head down to Texas, where either of the Lights All Night parties are sure to give you what you’re looking for.

You have two chances to dance the night away, depending on where you’re headed in the Lonestar State. The Dallas event lasts two nights, and this year is set to feature Zedd, Above & Beyond, A Trak and A$AP Ferg, while the El Paso equivalent has thus far only announced Deadmau5 and RL Grime, with more set to be revealed soon. Who knew Texas could turn up so hard on New Year’s?
