Denver trio bring stoner psychedelia back to rock in upcoming 7" release.

Stoner rock band BANDITS is premiering the video for its single "Kill Tonight" on Myspace! The starkly lit black and white video showcases the Mars Volta-ish musicianship of brother and sister team John Demitro (on guitar and vocals) and LuLu Demitro (on bass, keys and vocals), alongside Andrew Oakley (on drums). The Denver band brings it all back to pure, unadulterated rock & roll, reminiscent of Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin. Incidentally, “Kill Tonight” was mastered by Brian Gardner, the Grammy award-winning engineer who has worked with artists such as Jack White and Queens of the Stone Age. It’s one of two singles from BANDITS’ soon-to-be-released 7” Kill Tonight. LuLu talks to Myspace about making music with her brother, using Myspace as a musical litmus test and the band's love of vinyl.

Hometown and homebase: Boulder, CO

What made you and your brother want to form a band?

We started this band because we wanted a rock band, we just wanted to make the music that we love to hear and play.

You guys must’ve been raised playing music.

We all [did]. Our parents were musicians and always had music playing around the house when we were growing up.

What was it like growing up in Denver as a musician?

Denver was a great place to grow up playing music because so many bands would come through. Everyone would stop in Denver, so we had the opportunity to see and support so many different bands.

What were your first forays into musical creation with your brother?

I think the first song we wrote as siblings was about our little sister. It was just a silly song, we were probably 10 or 11.

Why the name BANDITS, then? Does it have a special meaning?

We decided on BANDITS because it just fit our music and sound.

Your upcoming 7" is called Kill Tonight after the song, right? Why release a 7"?

Our 7" is an A and B side of our two newest singles. We chose these two songs because they felt like the best representation of what our live show and current sound is. We decided to go for a 7" because we all love vinyl. It's a great way to listen to music and keep everyone connected through something physical.

What was the concept behind the “Kill Tonight” video?

The concept of the video was mostly to highlight the song and really show people how we've changed as a band in the last couple years. It's black and white, kind of inspired by Sin City.

How do you describe your music to someone who's never heard you before?

We describe ourselves as heavy rock, definitely influenced by stoner rock and psych.

As a band, what do you do for fun?

We all love to collect vinyl. I think on the road that's one of our favorite pasttimes. Going to a record store and browsing.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

We are all inspired by the big names in classic rock and even early metal. Black Sabbath and Zeppelin had a big influence on the start of this band. We're influenced by current artists as well like Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club, QOTSA, The Kills. That list could go on and on.

Is there anyone you'd love to collaborate with?

I think we'd love to collaborate with Boots Electric from EODM. We are all big fans and he has so much style in his writing.

What's the best gift a fan ever gave you?

A fan gave us a Power Rangers doll once. That was pretty weird. And awesome.

Tell us an awesome Myspace-related story as a musician.

I remember when I first got my Myspace account and you had to pick the music playing for when people came to your profile. That was how I judged people on MySpace, by their profile song.

If you were a hashtag, what would you be?
