A California high school almost turned down a visit from Macklemore, apparently because of his lyrical content.
Orange County's Aliso Nigel High School had won the appearance, along with a $10,000 donation to its music program, in a contest by textbook sales website Chegg.com. However, initially its principal turned down the prize after some parents complained that Macklemore's music promotes drug and alcohol use and misogyny.
Fact: Macklemore's last album, 2012's The Heist, features a song where he opens up about being a recovering addict. This wasn't the first time he discussed the consequences of drug and alcohol use.

Fact: The song "Contradictions" opens with Macklemore recalling the exact moment wherehe realized that he, too, can be misogynistic. It appears in his album The Language of My World, which was released a decade ago.
Fortunately, Aliso Nigel High reversed the decision after students protested via a Change.org petition with over 6,000 signatures. Student body vice president Quinn Darling had also spoken out on Instagram—see his post below.
