Self-proclaimed as more of a musical concept rather than a band, Monk guitarist, vocalist, founder and brainchild Rick Hordinski doesn't want to write the perfect pop melodies in fear that it'll limit him creatively.
Along with collaborator and bassist Brahn Sheray, he would rather express his improve skills as a musician on stage and in the studio. Resulting in Monk, Hordinski uses more of a layered, hypnotic guitar affect that doesn't quite fall into the radio friendly category, but has won live audiences thanks to a number of gigs with Moby, Bob Dylan, The Rembrandts, Rusted Roots Ben Harper, The Samples among others. This style brought on the attention of Ether Records, whom released Monk's 1997 debut "Quiver" followed by "Hush" in 1998. ~ Mike DaRonco
