The story of Troll Bends Fir (the original name “Troll Gnyot Yel” written in Russian) began in 1999 when Kostya “Troll”, playing in a Viking metal band, started to think of forming his own folk band.
As he was keen on Pagan Scandinavian folklore, hecame up with an idea to name it “Troll Bends Fir”, it was catchy, funny and in Russian sounded quite Scandinavian. Now he was looking for musicians and thefirst one was Jetra whose Irish whistle and voice matched the concept of TBFperfectly. Very soon, bassist, drummer and violinist stepped in, the materialwas ready and the band started performing gigs. Since that time a line-upchanged a lot and only Kostya and Jetra still remain. The band recorded five full-length albums, the 6th is scheduled for autumn of 2013.

Nowadays TBF is a leading Russian band playing music that can be defined as “folk-rock-humppa-metal”. Band’s members call their unique style “beer folk” and that’s the closest to the truth! Nobody remains indifferent while listening to these cheerful, lively tunes combined withlyrics about divine frothy drink or funny stories about characters from paganScandinavian and European folklore. Lyrics are primarily in Russian (though some are in English and there is a song in ancient Icelandic) and they follow the content of real folksongs. TBF use a mixture of “traditional” metal and clear guitar sound, adding violin and Irish whistle that brings some “fresh wind” and is a recognizablestyle of the band. Live shows all over Russia, including participation in eachof the largest rock and folk fest, gather crowds of people and turn them intoloyal fans that show up whenever they can. Every gig is a blast, the bandeasily transfer the energetic melodies and endless heady joy to the live stage. You just feel that atmosphere and… can’t help dancing!
