Tricycle Records was founded in 2006 by Julie Schuchard (a music photographer) and Don Joslin ( a musician and graphic designer).
Somehow they pulled together their collective knowledge of the indie music scene and using the resources they had available- they took a leap of faith and launched the label with an EP by Joslin’s band, The Union Trade. After a year of growing pains and numerous heartfelt discussions about the future of the label, the two founders settled on a concept: Tricycle Records would be a multi-genre label catering to DIY artists in the Bay Area music community. This would become the mission statement of Tricycle Records bands. Always DIY and always local.By August of 2007, a dancy electronic band called The Frail, and a fiery garage rock trio, The Blacks, joined the roster, bringing with them a whole new audience of listeners. Tricycle Records became a label that confused fans with their eclectic roster, but built a strong music community based in their local, DIY ethic.Approaching their 5 year anniversary, Tricycle Records represents one of the broadest rosters of small labels in the Bay Area, with something for everyone that loves music.
