Within a year of My Arcadia’s formation, the band had recorded an EP with emo-pop producer Paul Leavitt, toured the East Coast as an opening act, and earned the support of PureVolume, who dubbed the Bronx-based band one of the Top 20 Unsigned Artists of 2009.
Part of the appeal had to do with the band’s singer, Jacqui Sandell, whose charisma and vocal similarity to Paramore’s Hayley Williams went a long way in establishing My Arcadia’s credentials. Bandmates Mike Costello, Chris Golom, Chris Ragone, and Alex Cahill helped anchor the band’s sturdy pop sound, though, and My Arcadia continued building an audience during the following months, eventually earning a spot on the traveling Warped Tour in 2011. ~ Andrew Leahey
