Named after the George Jones-Roger Miller song, New York City's Tall Tall Trees is the project of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Mike Savino.
The eponymous 2009 debut, a bluegrass- and world music-influenced indie folk LP released on Savino's Good Neighbor Records, saw him joined by drummer Mathias Kunzli and guitarist Kyle Sanna. The more introspective Moment followed in 2012, adding Benjamin Campbell to the official lineup on bass. Savino toured extensively and mostly solo to promote Moment, quickly earning a reputation as a one-man band road warrior with performances centered on his highly modified "banjotron," incorporating live effects and looping pedals. During this time, Savino also became a regular in Kishi Bashi's touring band, playing his custom banjo and singing backup on multiple tours. Tall Tall Trees' 2014 EP, The Seasonal, showcased his expanded use of the banjo and evolving, more psychedelic sound. ~ Marcy Donelson
