Led by guitarist/vocalist Roy "Kay" Konitzer, the Roy Kay Trio plays purist rockabilly that owes a strong debt to such legends of the genre as Johnny Burnette, Charlie Feathers, and Carl Perkins.
Eschewing drums, the trio gains a quieter but no less energetic rhythmic base in the interplay between lead guitarist Mike Geglia and upright bassist Robin Cady. Based in Seattle, the group released its first full-length CD, Wanderin' Mind (produced by Deke Dickerson), in 2002 on Lur Liner Records. Knockin' Em Back followed in 2004. In 2005, the trio delivered the Western swing-oriented Rock-A-Way Lonesome Moon. Konitzer returned in 2008 with The Rhythm and Harmony of the Roy Kay Trio. The following year, Konitzer added drums and special guests to expand his rockin' trio into the Roy Kay Combo for 2009's I'm Hooked. ~ Matt Collar
