Starting out a romantic singer, Rosana Toledo was also successful in the disco and MPB styles with her gospel-tinged vocal interpretations.
Singing since her early teens in her father's group Casanova's, she made her debut at the MPB Shell Festival (TV Globo) in 1981, but her first hit came with "Nem Um Toque," from a demo tape that was used in the TV Globo soap opera Roda de Fogo. Success continued in 1987 with "O Amor e o Poder" (a broadly popular soap opera of the same name). One of the most played songs that year, it was also included on her first LP, Coração Selvagem. Her 1989 LP, Onde o Amor Me Leva, won the Sharp prize as the Best Record of the Year, and she was also awarded the Globo Radio System Award as the Best Singer of the Year. In 1990, she launched the Spanish version of that album for the Latin market, Por Donde el Amor Me Lleva, and released the unedited Doce Pecado, which had a hit with "Riscos do Amor" that was included in the soundtrack of the soap opera Salomé (TV Globo). Awarded the same year she won the Imprensa trophy as the Best Singer of the Year, Essa Sou Eu (1994) earned her the Sharp prize in the same category. Her disco-oriented Vende Peixe-Se (1996) had a hit with "Linha de Fogo," included in the soundtrack of the TV Globo series Malhação. After some time off, she returned to the artistic scene in 1999, participating in the commemorations of the Banco do Brasil Culture center of Carmen Miranda's 90th birthday. ~ Alvaro Neder
