Ann Arbor, MI-based Orpheum Bell describe their music as "country & eastern," referencing a combination of Americana and Eastern European influences.
The band was formed after roommates Aaron Klein (vocals, banjo, guitar) and Serge van der Voo (bass, percussion) met singer and multi-instrumentalist Merrill Hodnefield (vocals, violin, saw, autoharp). Joined by Shaun Williams (accordion, clarinet, banjo) and Annie Crawford (vocals, violin, Tiebel Violine), whose experience with both classical and Eastern European music would form a cornerstone of the group's sound, Orpheum Bell began playing locally in 2005 and released Pretty as You in 2007. Pearls followed in 2009. ~ Katherine Fulton
