Characterized by frontman Malthe Fischer's piercing falsetto, explosive hairdos (something like a cross between the Strokes and Yahoo Serious), and a magpie-like penchant for all things shiny (slick synthesizer bursts, glossy production values, and any number of computerized samples), Oh No Ono garnered a serious following in their native Denmark following the release of their 2005 debut EP, Now You Know Oh No Ono.
The band formed in Aalborg, Denmark, with the lineup initially consisting of Fischer, drummer Kristoffer Rom, guitarist Aske Zidore, and keyboardist Kristian Olsen. The band was launched into the limelight after its debut EP was awarded the Rock Nord Prisen (Northern Rock Prize). They brought bassist Nils Svoldgard into the fold, and released their debut full-length album, Yes, in the summer of 2006. Two years later, following Olsen's amicable split with the band and the addition of Nicolai Koch to the lineup, Oh No Ono got to work on their sophomore album, Eggs; the bandmembers recorded the album in a number of locations (including a handful of churches, an abandoned factory, and various outdoor locations), and produced the album themselves. The resulting long-player, released via Leaf Recordings and Friendly Fire, hit stores in 2010. ~ Margaret Reges
