On Sunday, October 27, we lost one of America's greatest rock icons when Lou Reed passed away at 71 years old. The New York musician was a rock and roll pioneer, and is credited for innovating punk and new wave music with his band, The Velvet Underground, which he started in the '60s. Reed is beloved for his solo work as well, which alone spans a 20-plus album career. His impact on rock music—and influence on other artists—is immeasurable. Rest in peace, Lou, you're a true national treasure.
