Private Mix
Joy Division, New Order and the Lost Tapes
Myspace
In the late '70s and '80s, many of England's up-and-coming post-punk bands, like Joy Division (which would later become New Order) and Psychedelic Furs, shared the same producer: Martin Hannett, who passed away in 1991 at the age of 42. On August 12, the pioneering recording guru's ex-personal assistant, Julia Adamson, rescued a box of lost tapes belonging to Hannett from a trash bin. Those records include original master tapes of Joy Division's 'Unknown Pleasures,' as well as recordings by Magazine, the Durutti Column and more. Here, a mix of the lost tapes—all gems, none trash.
