"Sounding like Mozart playing with the Sex Pistols!"
For centuries Vienna, Austria has been synonymous with classical music. Having been the home of some of the greatest composers in music history like Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Johann Strauss and many more, the cities‘ outstanding musical heritage has been preserved right to the present day. Vienna’s magical spell over classical composers has remained unbroken and for centuries classical music has been following strict rules. This continuity and observation of tradition has been respected up until 2008.

In 2008, My Excellence, added a new chapter to the history of classical music by releasing their debut album “Pomp’s Not Dead”, which fans described as sounding like Mozart playing with the Sex Pistols. For two years, My Excellence worked on their debut album, conjured up the spirit of Mozart and Bach and presented their very own Punk as homage to the geniuses of classical music. “Since the end of the first progressive rock era, few have dared to touch Vienna’s musical heritage for fear of being called pretentious. We’ve never been concerned with what people might think of what we do. We love classical music and we love electric guitars, piano and strings, why choose?” Richie, the lead singer, says.

In addition, My Excellence like to be close to their fans and to play live shows. And so they played more than 120 shows, some in the line up with bands like Razorlight, The Rasmus or Germany’s biggest shooting stars, Ich + Ich. The video clip of their single, The End Of Days, based on Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, was directed by Joern Heitmann (Rammstein and Beatsteaks), entered the Top 100 of VIVA and was featured in the American TV series “Ghost Whisperer”.

As a crowning finale of 2009, My Excellence song “Come On” was chosen as official song of the worldwide United Nation campaign against climate change “Seal The Deal” and performed by My Excellence in the sold out stadium “Parken” in Copenhagen for the opening of the climate change summit where the band personally met United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. After two exhausting years of playing live shows, the Viennese band released their fourth single "Rain On Me".

“It is the continuation of the revolution started 2008. For Rain On Me we took the time to experiment with grooves and synthetic sounds. The song puts on a groove which makes your hips start shaking. Sisi for sure would have danced, if she were still alive.

Listening to My Excellence songs is like taking a trip back to the time when Mozart’s attitude equally fascinated and shocked Vienna and the whole world. Drum grooves melt with sonatas and distortions reveal strings, and guitars gently weep to the sound of Vienna. After centuries of musical tradition and greatness realised, Vienna once again presents itself as the birth place of a fresh new sound. Discover the world of My Excellence.
