New York City-based quartet Morningsiders craft melodic, narrative indie folk alternately tinged with country, bluegrass, and the mellower side of jazz-rock.
Magnus Ferguson (lead vocals, guitar) and Reid Jenkins (fiddle, vocals) formed the band as students at Columbia University in 2012, adding Cody Gibson (bass, vocals) and David Su (drums, vocals). The foursome released their mercurial debut EP, Unfocus, in early 2015. After having been featured in a Starbucks commercial the previous year, their bubbly, irregular-metered, Mumford-esque single "Empress" became a viral streaming hit later in 2015. ~ Marcy Donelson
