Marty Bouma is quickly gaining recognition as one of Coffs Harbour’s most intriguing performing artists.
He has created a unique brand of music with his combination of intelligent song-writing and poignant lyrics. A pure singer-songwriter, Marty Bouma draws from influences such as Sting, Leonard Cohen, Lennon and McCartney as well as Ben Harper to inspire his own playing and writing. The result is a distinctive mix of bittersweet introspective folk/rock that will excite your musical senses.

Together with fellow Brisbane musicians Damian Lang and Jason Castle, Marty Bouma formed the group Blackwater, playing original music at festivals, clubs and pubs in the well documented Brisbane music scene of the late 80s / early 90s alongside legendary Brisbane acts such as Powderfinger, Lil Fi, John Malcolm and Regurgitator. Blackwater received airplay at radio stations across South East Queensland in the early 90s, followed by interviews and live-to-air acoustic sets. After previously playing bass guitar in bands, Marty Bouma made the transition to guitarist/vocalist while at university in the late 1990’s. Since moving to the Coffs coast in 2003, Marty Bouma has played originals and covers in numerous local bands such as The Big Kahunas, PRIZM and is currently with King Street and the Penny Lane Beatles Experience.

How and When? a twelve-song album released in May 2003, marked the debut of Marty Bouma as a solo recording artist. Tall Tales from Familiar Faces is Marty Bouma’s second album, released in 2011. Marty Bouma received a 2011 nomination in the Catapult song-writing awards for one of the songs off the album – Golden Chickens. A further nomination in late 2012 for the song - Find a Way Back Home, has also proved fruitful. He has since performed material from “Tall Tales” at many shows along the East coast of Australia..

Marty Bouma is currently in the studio recording his next album. He has incorporated new technology and a slightly edgier style into his music, further evolving his sound to include electronic beats and drum loops which will further solidify Marty Bouma’s place as a unique talent in a very competitive musical landscape.
