Originally starting out as a bedroom collective of several people who had the commonality of disliking post-rock, Lumen eventually branched out in 1997 as Jeffrey Rosenberg, Jeffrey Kane, Andee Connors, and David Blei started playing out in their native of San Francisco.
With the release of their debut EP, Toffee, the quartet captured their quirky hybrid of metal ballads, punk, and new age with a layered instrumentation that included acoustic guitars, upright bass, organs, and accordion. Not too long after members relocated in both Los Angeles and Oakland, Temporary Residency Limited released Lumen's debut full-length, The Man Felt an Iron Hand, in 2001. ~ Mike DaRonco
