“The Sides”, a dual EP narrative by multi-instrumentalist Jorge Laboy, is now available for free download. Each “side” is comprised of five songs to embody the five psychological stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally, acceptance. Through these EPs, the tragic tale of a character coping with love and loss unfolds in two contrasting ways. “Side A: The Collector”, provides a soundtrack to the griever as he banishes himself from the world, surrounds himself with mementos of his beloved, and bottles his feelings. “Side B: The Traveler”, provides an alternative soundtrack, this time rendering a story where the griever drives off into the night and makes the world his escape--- instead of mementos, he carries a gun. “The Sides” are not only soundtracks for the story of the griever, but they are metaphors drawn from Jorge’s own experiences--- though mournful in nature, they are ultimately meant to remind listeners that even in grief, even in loss, and even when hope, like everything, dies…
