A singer and songwriter whose music is a charming blend of pop sweetness, folky lilt, and country twang, Kelly Jones was born in Ridgefield, Washington.
After spending time in New York City and Nashville, Jones settled in Los Angeles, and self-released her debut EP, Brave Heartache, in 2004. An independent album, Handle with Care, followed in 2006. After writing a batch of songs with power pop obsessive Mike Viola, Jones released her significantly poppier third effort, 2008's Shebang! In 2010, she and Viola teamed up to record a collaborative EP under the group name Melon. In 2013, Jones released Alta Loma, a graceful and introspective effort recorded primarily at home and released independently. She had struck up a friendship with singer and songwriter Teddy Thompson after they performed a George Jones song together during a club show in 2011. Jones and Thompson soon began collaborating, and in 2016 they released an album, Little Windows. The pair celebrated its release with a joint tour of America and the U.K. Jones has toured with Mandy Moore's backing band, and sung with Brian Blade on his tour behind the 2009 album Mama Rosa. ~ Mark Deming
