King grew up with a houseful of music fans, and early on he developed a passion for vintage Southern rock bands such as the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as classic rock outfits like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. As King grew into his teens, he became a serious Garth Brooks fan, and was inspired to begin singing and playing guitar. As King became more advanced in his guitar playing, he began writing his own songs, and while his first band, formed while he was in high school, was mainly devoted to rock & roll, he found that his voice and his songs leaned more toward country. After completing high school, King enrolled at the University of Georgia, where he majored in music. When not occupied with his studies, King began playing local country venues, and managed to land opening slots for a handful of well-known artists. King's talent and knack for self-promotion led to him signing a publishing deal with Black River Publishing in 2012, and he began writing songs in collaboration with Black River A&R man Doug Johnson. Black River signed King to a record deal in 2013, and he began work on his first album. King's debut single, 2014's "Tonight Tonight," an anthemic tribute to the joys of the weekend, fared well enough to rise to number 39 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. ~ Mark Deming
