Jack the Ripper was formed in 1995 around brothers Arnaud Mazurel and Thierry Mazurel and named after Nick Cave's song.
Six other musicians entered the band in the following years, and the band recorded its first self-produced studio LP, Book of Lies, in the wake of 2000. They got signed in 2001, and released their first effort on the market that same year. It was followed by 2003's I'm Coming and 2005's Ladies First, all of which displayed various influences, among which the most striking was Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Their classy, heartfelt recipe earned them a solid fan base, though they didn't reach massive recognition yet. Ladies First was re-released in 2006 with a bonus EP comprised of unreleased material, and the band headed back to the studio in 2007. ~ Olivier Duboc
