Originally known as Forlorn, Gavle, Sweden's Isole formed (under that rather overused moniker) in 1990.
Core members Crister Olsson (guitars and vocals) and Daniel Bryntse (guitars and vocals) recorded some demos with a handful of different members making up the roster, hoping that their brand of doom metal would get noticed. Unfortunately, the lack of stability in the membership led to (still known as) Forlorn taking an extended break after the 1994 demo Waves of Sorrow. Surprisingly, it was an outside source that gave Forlorn the energy to re-emerge, when -- in 2003 -- I Hate Records contacted the core duo, hoping to sign a deal. Seeing this as a perfect moment to make a new start, the duo filled out their membership (yet again) with bassist Henka and drummer Jonas Lindtrom, and changed their name to Isole. Their first full-length as a new unit, Forevermore, was released in 2005. Within a year, Isole had another new album ready to go, and in 2006 released their sophomore slab of metal, Throne of Void. Album number three, the critically well-received Bliss of Solitude -- which was made possible thanks to Napalm Records, Isole's new label -- arrived in 2008. ~ Chris True
