A pivotal member -- the lead vocalist, in fact -- of the Malaysian rock act Wings, Awie (born Ahmad Azhar bin Othman on November 24, 1968, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) started a solo career after taking leave of his band due to internal tensions.
As a solo artist, he was moderately successful, releasing four solo albums (Satu, Otak, Awie Unplugged, and Santai) as well as taking on the first of what would become many acting roles in the film world -- he would feature in more than 15 films by the time of Antoo Fighter in 2008. In 2002, after Wings had trouble reconciling their new frontman and the fans, Awie returned, and the band resumed action. ~ Chris True
