Hardcore punk foursome Golpe de Estado became one of the leading bands of its genre in Costa Rica, performing songs related to local social issues especially of concern to young people.
A festival called Escándalo (Scandal) was held to introduce local punk rock and ska. It was an opportunity for local bands such as Skartel, La Familia Bastarda, and Golpe de Estado to get involved in the rock scene. The group independently released a self-titled album, featuring original songs and live performances. ~ Drago Bonacich
