The output of self-described non-musician Leandro Fresco ranges from ambient to commercial pop.
A native of Buenos Aires, he began making music in his teen years and released his first album, a set of experimental electronic tracks titled Cápsula, in 1996. Years later, he and Gustavo Cerati forged a long-term creative partnership. Fresco performed as a member of Cerati's backing band, assisted him with recording sessions -- a commercial peak achieved with contributions to Shakira's Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 -- and joined Cerati's Soda Stereo for touring purposes. All the while, Fresco recorded as a solo artist and released albums such as the uniformly low-key but stylistically diverse Luz Sin Calor (2005), the contemporary pop/rock-oriented Leandro Fresco (2014), and the all-ambient El Reino Invisible (2015). The latest of that series was released by Cologne, Germany's Kompakt label, which had previously showcased his ambient side on 12" and on three of their annual Pop Ambient compilations. ~ Andy Kellman
