Latin pop duet from Spain Ella Baila Sola started working on their own music in the mid-'80s after producer Gonzalo Benavides heard a demo of a local band called the Just, led by Marta Botía and Marilia Casares, and got in touch with them soon after.
Both singers met earlier while studying at Madrid's San Agustín School, sharing their passion for music. Benavides convinced them to start singing in Spanish, changing the band's name at the same time. Ella Baila Sola recorded its first self-titled album in 1996. A year later, the act was awarded at Premios Amigo for Best Spanish Band. After touring all over Spain and reaching important venues around Latin America, Ella Baila Sola released e.b.s. in 1998, getting the hit single "Y Quisiera." Marta & Marilia was issued three years later. ~ Drago Bonacich
