The seeds of New York's dayinthelife? were planted in the now-defunct N.Y. hardcore band Mind Over Matter.
The band released two independent albums (and toured both the U.S. and Europe), and it was in that group that singer George Reynolds and singer/guitarist Josh DeMarco first collaborated. When the group splintered, Reynolds and DeMarco set out to form a new band that embraced other kinds of music (including alternative, heavy metal, hardcore, psychedelia, etc.). They also wanted to concentrate on developing their original two-singer attack over a wall of dense guitar riffing. The rest of the band (bassist Kris Fleischmann, guitarist Blunt, and drummer John Kamoosi) came together quickly, since they were already friends and played in rival bands from the Long Island, NY area. After catching the ear of producer/Building Records president Don Fury (Quicksand, CIV), the group was signed on the strength of their live show and unique sound. The band released their self-titled debut in the autumn of 1997. ~ Greg Prato
