Since Jamaican producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd was most famous for his ska, rocksteady, and roots recordings, he turned to the Dub Specialist pseudonym when he needed to keep up with King Tubby, Scientist, and other dub producers with mysterious monikers.
Dub albums like Better Dub, Mello Dub, and Zodiac Sounds appeared on the Studio One label under this name during the mid-'70s, most with minimal packaging that would change when titles were reissued or bootlegged. The Heartbeat label revisited the work of Dub Specialist in 1995 with the collection 17 Dub Shots from Studio One and then again in 2008 with the simply titled Dub. ~ David Jeffries
