Cœur de pirate is the solo project of award-winning singer and pianist Béatrice Martin.
Martin has been playing piano and keyboards since she was only 3 years old, and released her internationally acclaimedself-titled debut album in 2008. North American and European toursfollowed, as did studio collaborations with Kardinal Official and DavidUsher. This led to two Felix Awards in 2009 and 2010, and a 2010 Victoirede la Musique Award for Song of the Year. She has also been nominated fora Juno and long-listed for the Polaris Prize. After appearing on Bedouin Soundclash’s 2010 album Light the Horizon, she further collaborated with Jay Malinowski on a 5-track EP entitled Armistice, released in early 2011. She also appeared in theatres across France as the voice ofthe new Smurfette. In November 2011, Cœur de pirate released herhighly-anticipated sophomore effort, Blonde, co-produced by BeatriceMartin herself and Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat, GodspeedYou ! Black Emperor, The Dears). Since then, Blondereceived the most nominations at l’ADISQ 2012, appeared on the Polaris Prizelong-list and scored a second Juno nomination for Martin. The album achieved worldwide success, allowing Martin to tour in the US during winter 2012, including a sold-out show at New York City’s Highline Ballroom.The popularity of Blonde renewed the public interest towards Cœur de pirate’s first effort, which achieved a French Diamond certification (500 000 copies) in September 2012. Altogether, Martin has now sold more that 1 million albums across the globe.
