Chuy Lizárraga is a banda singer from Sinaloa, Mexico, who made his solo album debut in 2005 and scored his first international smash hit a half-decade later with "La Peinada (La Peinadita)." Born on November 9, 1976, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, he began his career in a series of banda groups, including Banda Aramburos, La Original Banda El Limón de Salvador Lizárraga, and Banda San José de Mesillas, all three of which released albums featuring him as a vocalist.
The most notable of these early recordings of Lizárraga are a pair of Banda San José de Mesillas albums released in 2002 on EMI, Con Alma de Acero and Tu Destino. In 2004 he embarked on a solo career and founded a banda group of his own, Chuy Lizárraga y Su Banda Tierra Sinaloense. Following a couple albums on the Int'l Latin America label, Quédate Conmigo (2005) and Como Burro sin Mecate (2006), Lizárraga signed a recording contract with the Univision Music Group label Disa Records and released Postrado a Tus Pies (2008). The association with Disa Records, the second-largest regional Mexican music label in the world, significantly broadened Lizárraga's fan base, particularly in the United States, and the mainstream breakthrough success that had eluded him to date was increasingly within reach. Fourth album Tu Regalo (2009) was initially not much more successful than its predecessor; however, the single "La Peinada (La Peinadita)" steadily grew to become an international smash hit in 2010, nearly a year after its original release, when it broke into the Top Ten of the Billboard Latin Regional Mexican Airplay chart and the Top 20 of the overall Latin Songs chart. ~ Jason Birchmeier
