Cat Porter grew up on a farm in Kentucky but now resides in the rural outskirts of Birmingham, Alabama.
For seventeen years, she poured her heart and soul into ballet. She danced with both the Nashville Ballet and Alabama Ballet. In her youth, she took piano off and on, but often put aside the sheet music in preference of composing her own melodies. Cat wanted to play something new and fresh rather than music mastered by many others before her. That aspiration led her to where she is today, scoring her first feature length documentary, RIVER DREAMS, by conservation filmmaker Hunter Nichols.

When creating music, Cat draws inspiration from artists such as The Album Leaf, Hammock, Tom Middleton, Yann Tiersen, and James Newton Howard. Her work is primarily electronic and instrumental with cinematic and techno influences, though her voice may occasionally make an appearance. Her exposure to many years of wide-ranging music through dance has also greatly influenced her sound.

Cat’s debut album, THE LONG HAUL, was independently released in July of 2012.
