After swooping in to finish Bohemian Rhapsody,

director Dexter Fletcher is now preparing his own musical biopic.

In a new sneak peek at Rocketman, named after Elton John’s 1972 hit song, star Taron Egerton (Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle) sings his cover of the legend’s “Tiny Dancer” for the film.

“Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron,'” music producer Giles Martin says in the behind-the-scenes featurette. “And the great thing about Elton is that he wants Taron’s interpretations of his songs.”

For Egerton, it’s about making sure all the songs featured in the film “come from a place of character.”

“Elton’s songs have defined moments in people’s lives,” he says.

Fletcher, who stepped in to complete the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after Fox parted ways with Bryan Singer (who still maintains directing credit), helms Rocketman based on a screenplay by Billy Elliott‘s Lee Hall.

Bodyguard Golden Globe winner Richard Madden plays John’s manager and lover John Reid; Jamie Bell plays lyricist Bernie Taupin; and Bryce Dallas Howard plays John’s mother, Sheila Eileen. Rocketman will open in theaters this May 31.
