Jonathan Van Ness is going for comedy gold on his on his 2019 stand-up comedy tour, Road to Beijing.

And to prepare, he’s turning to one of figure skating’s most decorated champions: Michelle Kwan!

The Queer Eye star, 31, teamed up with Kwan, 38, for a hilarious new video to promote the LiveNation tour — which kicks off Feb. 28 in Philadelphia and will hit major cities across the U.S., including newly announced stops in Los Angeles (June 20), Phoenix (June 21), and Denver (June 23).

Inspired by Van Ness’ current and ongoing attempt to become a figure-skating prodigy in time for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, the clip, exclusively premiered by PEOPLE, features the duo performing a pitch-perfect skate routine sure to garner 10s across the board. As they skate, Cher’s 2001 hit “Song for the Lonely” plays (thanks to music courtesy of Cher’s 2019 Here We Go Again Tour).

Working with Kwan — a two-time Olympic medalist, a five-time World champion and a nine-time U.S. champion — was a dream come true for Van Ness.

“I’ve idolized Michelle Kwan my entire life, and being able to get to know her through social media has been a pinch-me-is-this-real fever dream moment,” he tells PEOPLE. “She taught me how to be my own champion when I watched her skate when I was young, so to grow up to be friends with her is like, ‘Oh-my-gay-God-what-is-this?!’ “

Van Ness was inspired to launch his Road to Beijing tour after falling in love with live performance.

“My brain waves function differently onstage,” Van Ness says. “I’m at my funniest onstage, and I’m connected to another part of me. It’s really thrilling for me and hopefully it will be for you too!”

“After having had such a blast on my hotels.comedy mini tour last summer, I realized that standup is something I’m really passionate about,” he adds. “I’m really excited to develop that craft and bring that energy into 2019, and spend a bit more time on stage by building out a longer set. I also wanted to bring some of my on-ice training, and living room gymnastics training, and yoga flows to the stage.”

Of course, stand-up comes with its own challenges, particularly finding the life/work balance. “I love entertaining and I’m so excited about it, but finding the balance of my love of entertaining with my life is the hardest part,” he says. “Not that I’m complaining, because I totally love it so much!”

So what can fans expect from the show? Van Ness explains: “You’re going to get to see a much more full comedic onion of my personality; some cirque du so gay, some on ice moments, some yoga moments, honey, and there will also always be two other gorgeous, hilarious comedians bringing their sensibilities to the stage as well.”
