The late reggae legend's son Ziggy Marley is developing the upcoming movie

A new Bob Marley biopic is reportedly in the works.

The reggae legend, who died in May 1981 at the age of 36, will be the focus of the new film, which is being developed by the late icon’s son Ziggy Marley in collaboration with Paramount Pictures.

As Deadline reports, Ziggy will be the driving force behind the picture, which is still in the very early stages of development. There are few details about the project at this time, with no directors, writers or producers currently attached to the biopic.

The upcoming film will be the latest Bob Marley biopic to be made, with the most recent Marley picture, the 2012 film Marley, featuring archive interviews and footage of the artist. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the film was released to critical acclaim.

Ziggy Marley recently released his latest album, ‘Rebellion Rises’, last month. He produced the video Bob Marley & The Wailers: Easy Skanking in Boston ’78, while he served as an executive producer on the documentaries Bob Marley Legend Remixed and the aforementioned Marley

Back in 2016, Marley’s estate revealed plans to launch a new range of cannabis products to mark what would have been the artist’s 71st birthday.

“If my father was here physically, he would be up front advocating for this plant, so we are very proud to put our Marley Natural brand out there,” the artist’s son Stephen said in a statement.
