The actor and musician plays Lando Calrissian in the upcoming spin-off movie

Donald Glover has revealed what the first thing he did when he got a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story was.

The latest Star Wars spin-off movie stars Glover, Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Woody Harrelson, and more.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Glover – who also makes music under the name Childish Gambino – explained how he got the part of Lando Calrissian. “I told my agent, ‘If they’re making a Han Solo movie, Lando’s gotta be in it and I wanna be Lando’,” he said. “And to his credit – and I appreciate it – he was like, ‘I don’t like your odds’, which was awesome cos I was like, ‘I’mma get this.'”

He continued to explain the first toy he ever owned was one of Calrissian, which his dad bought for him. Asked what he did first after getting the role, he said: “I did call my dad first and told him, and that was a big moment. He was proud. And then I got a large cheese pizza and then went home and watched The Empire Strikes Back. And that was it – research.”

The first reviews for Solo: A Star Wars Story have begun to appear online following last night’s Los Angeles premiere. One described the movie has having a “charming cast, fun action, good jokes, good fan service, but still does its own thing.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story is released in cinemas on May 25.
