Haim, Kali Uchis, Aurora, Tyler and more...
Bey slayed – well of course she bloody did – at Coachella over the weekend, but if you were too dazzled by her sparkly boots marching band to notice anything else that was happening over in Indio, then worry not. Here are some other sublime sets from the weekend.
1. Haim
Rocking up on the main stage just ahead of Beyonce, Haim’s sisterly set was directed by film director Paul Thomas Anderson, who used shots of the trio’s home in the San Fernando Valley as a giant backdrop. The set was as slick as Danielle’s silver trousers.
2. St Vincent
Annie Clarke’s last live show divided opinion, but her Coachella set saw her flipping the whole thing on its head and putting on a “blistering, disturbing rock show”. Dry ice, a full band and big riffing made for a powerful, punchy performance.
3. Tyler, the Creator
Tyler now has leopard print hair. Worth the Coachella ticket price alone. It’s shame that his crowd weren’t into the set, because it was pretty amazing.
4. Post Malone
Post Malone’s first ever Coachella appearance was a lowkey triumph. He might have been on at the same time as Beyonce, but he still pulled in a mega crowd who hung on his every word. He also wore some very natty trousers. Ty Dolla $ign and 21 Savage popped along for the ride, too.
5. Yodelling Walmart Boy
A month ago, Mason Ramsey was just a kid with a dream; to sing in the occasional supermarket. But following his viral Walmart crooning video he’s become one of the most sought after young artists in the world. No surprise then that he was invited to Coachella as a last minute performer. You can hardly hear him above the roar of the crowd, but that’s hardly the point.
6. Kali Uchis
The next great pop star of 2018 is Kali Uchis. Despite the fact that her guitarist got freaked out and didn’t show up, she still managed to pull in a killer show and bought out her old pal Tyler, The Creator to perform ‘After The Storm’ with her.
7. Cardi B
A twerking, pregnant Cardi B with a guest spot from Chance the Rapper. Proof that there maybe is a god?
8. Aurora
The Norwegian singer-songwriter debuted her new single ‘Queendom’ from her forthcoming second album on the Coachella stage. Equal parts Bjork and Florence, her afternoon set was a glammy, gorgeous tour de force.
