Good luck - we think they'll need it...

Deadpool 2 has been submitted as a contender for nomination in a number of categories at the 2019 Oscars, with the film most notably vying for the Best Picture honor.

The sequel to the comedy-action film was released back in May, and saw Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as the wise-cracking titular superhero.

The film’s distributors 20th Century Fox have now officially submitted Deadpool 2 for consideration at the Academy Awards, which will take place next year on February 24 in LA.

A listing on Fox’s ‘Screenings’ website confirms that Deadpool 2 is asking to be considered in a number of categories, most notably Best Picture, Best Director (for David Leitch) and Best Actor (Reynolds).

The following categories have also been flagged by Fox: Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Score, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and, finally, Best Visual Effects.

It’s not yet known how serious these nominations are, but some observers have noted that the deluge of ‘For Your Consideration’ nods from Fox may be having a playful jest at the expense of Marvel and Disney, who recently submitted Black Panther for consideration as Best Picture.

Nominations for the 2019 Oscars begin on January 7, before closing on January 14. The final list of nominees will be announced on January 22.

Following his most recent success as Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds’ next big role will be as the voice of Detective Pikachu – and people are already very excited about the forthcoming Pokémon film.
