They just never made it in

Tom Hardy has revealed that his favorite scenes from his upcoming film Venom have been left on the cutting room floor.

The Spiderman spin-off will see Hardy play intrepid photographer Eddie Brock who is taken over by his nightmarish alter-ego, Venom.

Asked to describe his favorite scene by ComicsExplained, the actor answered bluntly: “Things that aren’t in this movie.

“There are like 30 to 40 minutes worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie… all of them. Mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes. You know what I mean? They just never made it in.”

There is a chance the puppeteering scenes were dropped in favor of more violence. Director Ruben Fleischer has previously spoken about wanting to stay true to the comics and push the film’s violence as far as its PG-13 rating will allow.

“What I’ve said in the past is that we wanted to push the violence to the hilt,” he said. “The Dark Knight was always a huge reference point for me, personally, just as far as how far you could take a PG-13.”

Hardy revealed recently how he drew on his own mental health experiences to prepare for the character of Venom.

“It’s like acting out mental illness in some aspects,” he said, “of which I have a fair understanding, having had a certain amount of mental health problems of my own, which are relevant, being an addict. So I might as well f**king use it.”

Riz Ahmed plays inventor Carlton Drake in the movie, who is experimenting with the alien ‘symbiote’ that invades the physiology of Hardy’s investigative reporter Eddie Brock.

The film also stars Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Scott Haze and Woody Harrelson, and is due for release on October 3.
