'Blade Runner 2049' might not be the last of the dystopian sci-fi franchise

Ridley Scott is planning another Blade Runner sequel, the director has revealed.

The 1982 original was followed up last year by Blade Runner 2049, which starred Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, and was directed by Denis Villeneuve. Scott acted as executive producer on the movie.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Scott said he hoped he would get the chance to make another film in the dystopian sci-fi franchise. “I think there is another story,” he said. “I’ve got another one ready to evolve and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure.”

Blade Runner 2049 was released 25 years after the original movie, and under-performed at the box office upon release. Across 4,058 sites in North America (nearly four times more than the original), the sequel made $31.5 million (£24 million) – $20 million under expectations.

Meanwhile, Ridley Scott is nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globes, which take place tomorrow (January 7), for his new movie All The Money In The World.

The movie had to undergo extensive reshoots in the weeks leading to its release after Kevin Spacey was replaced by Christopher Plummer at short notice following accusations of sexual misconduct, assault and harassment made against the House of Cards actor. Spacey issued a statement following the claims, saying that he was “taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment”. Plummer is nominated for Best Actor.
