The fuzz rockers talk early band days and their future plans.
Navy Gangs won't let anything stop them from making music. After taking on various odd jobs, singer and guitarist Matthew Tillwick, guitarist Noah Kohll, bassist Wilson Keithline and drummer Gavin Cordaro saved up enough money to move from Nebraska to the Big Apple. After the long cross-country bus ride, they managed to put together their self-titled EP followed by their single, "Special Glands." And they're not stopping there and have been playing as many gigs as possible. They're ready to let the world know who they are. Myspace had the chance to talk to the band and learn more about them. See it below.
Hometown: Omaha, NE
Homebase: Brooklyn, NY
How did the band get together?
We moved to New York and met Wilson.
What's the story behind the band name?
I was reading a National Geographic, and "navy" and "gangs" were on the same page.
Matthew, Noah and Gavin, you guys have been playing together since high school. How do you feel you guys have improved as musicians?
We've gone from 0 to 70, which is wayyyyy up.
And how has the band dynamic evolved over time and with the addition of Wilson?
We might be up in the 80s now with Wilson.
Being from Omaha, how do you feel the Midwest has influenced your music? And then how has living in New York had an impact?
Omaha has a good music scene, and we brought it to New York.
Favorite song to perform at the moment? Why?
New unreleased songs because they feel crispy with the crunchies.
What's a band we should be looking out for in 2017?
Gavin and Noah: David Nance
Matt: Purr and Soccer Mommy
Although you dropped an EP last year, are you already working on new music? If so, what can you tell us about it?
We're recording a new full length. It's going to be HOT.
