The third and perhaps final instalment if this reboot is slated for a July 2017 release.

War for the Planet of the Apes is the latest iteration of the most recent reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise. The third, and probably final, film in this particular strand of the story is due out in theaters on July 14 2017. It is called War for the Planet of the Apes and is set in the midst of a world war between super intelligent apes and their creators, man.

The apparent trilogy has traced the growth of super intelligent apes, with Caesar (portrayed by famed CGI model Andy Serkis, who has history playing King Kong and Gollum) as the central character.

The first in the trilogy was called Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it followed Caesar as he becomes sentient and escapes captivity. The second film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, is set 10 years on from the original. It finds Caesar as the leader of an ape clan living peacefully out of the way of a now virus-ravaged human population. One thing of course needs to another and through no fault of Caesar humanity and apehood are set on a path towards all out war.

Enter the latest film War for the Planet of the Apes. This still takes Caesar as its main character and sees the apes embroiled in a bitter and costly war with the humans.

War for the Planet of the Apes Trailers

So far there are 3 trailers released for the film. They are:

War for the Planet of the Apes Teaser Trailer

This teaser trailer sets the scene for the action to come. It introduces Woody Harrelson as the deranged Colonel of the armies sent to fight against Caesar and his apes. The trailer also sets up the story of what appears to be an orphan girl, taken under the wing of the apes. Following the devastation of the human population it appears that humanity has got itself back together, with organized military with advanced laser-sighted weapons.

War for the Planet of the Apes Official Trailer

This trailer starts with voiceovers from the previous movies; Caesar’s compassion and empathy towards humans is highlighted. All the while showing him in rather despotic fashion, marching through a prostrating crowd of monkeys. Paradoxically it is the apes that show their ability to be humane, where the humans seem to abandon this.

War for the Planet of the Apes Final Trailer

This trailer seems to reinforce the idea that the apes aren’t the savages in this war. Caesar states, “We aren’t savages, we fight only to survive.” Essentially calling out humanity for its savagery and war-mongering nature. This trailer focuses much more on the adversarial relationship between Caesar and Woody Harrelson's Colonel.

Bad Ape is so called because his human keeper at the zoo named him that. This clip also shows the ominous figure played by Woody Harrelson, who appears to be gearing up his army for all out war on the apes.
