From box offices successes to a pop culture murder mystery, here’s what you missed over the weekend.

It’s been an interesting few days, filled with both celebration and unfathomable waves of crime. Although we’d love to be forever enchanted with stories of love, grandeur and badass female characters (sup, Belle?), we’re unfortunately brought back to reality to acknowledge two devastating losses and worry for the safety of those who are constantly in the public eye. From box offices successes to a pop culture murder mystery, here’s what you missed over the weekend.

Belle Steals the Spotlight

Despite all of the controversy plaguing Beauty and the Beast before it even arrived in theaters, Disney’s live-action remake of its cherished, animated classic is well on its way to breaking a box office record. Raking in over $170 million domestically alone, the Emma Watson-led fairytale has grossed close to $350 million worldwide in only two days! Not too shabby. The March record is currently held by 2016’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which earned a total of $422.5 million during its opening weekend. With one day left to go, it’s quite possible that the superhero foes get knocked from the comforts of their number one spot by the book-loving, Beast-befriending Belle. Let the lady show 'em how it's done.
