Winter is Coming...To An End
The creators of HBO’s Game of Thrones have been piling on the heartache since day one, in particular with their infamous “Hold The Door” episode (it still hurts), and now they’re adding to the torment once again. Loyal viewers patiently waited for six entire seasons to gain insight into the fascinating development of characters and to see how the intricate storylines played out, but with the promise of winter’s arrival only recently coming to fruition (after six years of waiting), the head honchos have announced that they’re throwing in the towel after the completion of the next two seasons. As if that wasn’t devastating enough, the eighth and final season will be limited to a mere six episodes...six! What are we going to do without our beloved Khaleesi?

The sad news was confirmed by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss during their South by Southwest Film Festival panel, who were joined by Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark). “From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end.” On a happier note, as a final “Thank you” for Maisie William’s hard work, the cast and crew managed to swing a pretty spectacular surprise for her. It was supposed to remain a secret, but word somehow got out that British singer Ed Sheeran will be making a guest appearance during Season 7. Williams happens to be a huge fan of Sheeran’s, and the collaboration has been in the works for years, with the invite only recently being accepted by the “Shape of You” singer. Talk about having connections. We’ll be sad to see our favorite characters go, but the producers are more than ready to lay them to rest. “We argued over who got to kill Sansa,” said Benioff. Get ready to be re-acquainted with your favorite characters before they’re killed off and the show ends — July 16 is just around the corner.
