It's taken from his latest LP 'Colors'
Beck brought ‘Colors’ to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last night (December 6), with a performance of ‘Up All Night’.
The musician released his thirteenth studio album on October 13 – a previous mix of single ‘Up All Night’ was featured on the soundtrack of football game FIFA 17. The ‘Up All Night’ video, released back in September, sees an armour-clad girl (played by French actress Solene Rigot) in search for a fallen friend (Pedro Attenborough) at a house party.
Now, Beck has brought the track to US TV – check out his The Tonight Show performance below.
Speaking to NME about ‘Colors’, Beck said: “If I turned on pop radio right now, I wouldn’t say this was a pop record.
“There’s a lot of music out there, so we thought, ‘Let’s try to make something that’s not just going to be ephemeral, something that disappears once somebody gets halfway through it’… There was a very strong positive feeling that was happening while we were making this record, this renewed appreciation and affection for playing music and the relationship with the audience, the joy of being together…”
Beck previously described the record as “simple and uplifting and galvanizing, where the spirit moves you, that kind of feeling.”
He added: “This new record I focused on that feeling. It’s the easiest to fail at. Or to come off on one hand disingenuous, or on the other hand just trite, or, you know, there’s that fine line between platitude and just the truth. And that fine line between making a big commotion and a bunch of movement and just actual unadulterated joy.”
