From cover-ups to removal, ridding yourself of a tattoo isn't easy.

A Cover-Up is Going to Be Bigger Than You Expect

Even if your original tattoo blunder is only a few inches, it's going to take a lot more than that to turn it into a decent cover-up. Expect to be sitting for multiple sessions (unless it's tiny) and end up with a tattoo two or three times the size of what's being covered. Also, this should go without saying, but make sure the tattoo is fully healed before you go get it covered or else it's going to be even more painful the second time around.

You May Need Laser Removal and a Cover-Up

Although some tattoos won't be too challenging to cover up, there are some that'll need to be hit with a few laser sessions just to lighten up before it's gone over. Yeah, that means you'll be paying for both processes at the same time, but it's a whole lot better than having a faulty cover-up that ends up semi-translucent over the original tattoo after a few years. If an artist tells you your ink needs to be lasered, take their advice and remember it the next time you think about getting a questionable tattoo.
